Time To Shine

Wow! Ruma Ruru really shone today as they showed off their inquiry learning. We hope you learned a thing or two about how to use things around us (for example, oranges) for sustainability.

Check out the Ruru's showcasing their ideas...

Thanks to Oliver-Josh and Abbie who did a wonderful introduction.
Check out the slideshow if you missed out...

A HUGE thanks to those parents that came along to share in the Ruru's learning...

We hope you enjoyed  it and those tasty muffins!

Please leave us a comment on what you enjoyed about this inquiry. Maybe your favourite 'use of an orange' or the Mihi Whakatau?

See you soon xx

We are turning orange!

We are turning orange! Today we dived deep into our inquiry and discovered that the orange trees in our back yards are brimming with citrus fruit at the moment. But what to do with all of this fruit? We wanted to use all of the parts of the fruit so we don’t waste.

So far we've made ‘Sparkly citrus cleaner’ using orange peels and white vinegar. Our classroom is not only going to be clean and refreshing, but we don’t have to spend money on supermarket cleaners anymore; we can easily reuse the peels to make our own!

 Peeling the fruit

 The ingredients

Adding the peels to the jar.

More peels and then the white vinegar.

 Shaking the vinegar and oranges...

We brushed our teeth using an orange peel, that was interesting... our breath did smell really nice and fruity.

Also, we freshened up our rubbish bin by simply putting in our left over orange peels.

Stay tuned for some more uses of the everyday orange. Tomorrow we are making orange juice ice blocks, peel art and doing some baking... mmm orange cake!

 Love Ruma Ruru :)

PS: We have just adopted some pet fish. You can see them at the top of the page. What shall we call them?

The ice blocks were yummy! We didn't even add any sweetener. Check us out sharing the orange juice ice block love...

Most of thought the ice blocks were tasty and wanted more...

While some of us weren't so keen on them...

We shared them around...
